Nostalgic Movies - Part ONE

I'm sorry - but they just don't make movies like they used to.  I said what I said and I stand by it!  We have always loved watching "nostalgic" movies with our kids and this weekend Griffin and I watched My Girl and had me thinking that this would make such a great blog topic.  I'm going to share ten of our tried and true favorites today and then some suggestions over the next couple of weeks.

1) The Sandlot

It's just the best.  I can't say it enough.

Three Things

It's been a minute since I've done a Three Things post and thought it would be fun to give a little update today!

- VP -

Luke was voted in as the Vice President of the MCA chapter of National Honor Society.  We can't wait to see him rise to this occasion and it's always a big mom win to see others recognize the same qualities in him that we see.

- BACK AT IT -

Luke injured his posterior tibial tendons back in August and has been seeing a specialized chiropractor and physical therapist to try and rehab it. Not the Junior season he hoped for but we've been so proud of how he's handled the setback.

- MECHANIC -

Luke has been doing some work on his truck and has been LOVING the "Lego" aspect of car mechanics.  Parts inventories, ordering parts, YouTube instructional videos, tools... it's been fun to see him find a new hobby.

- SPANISH DANCING -

Mason's spanish teacher incorporates "dance breaks" into their double block of class and it's the highlight of his day.  Apparently he's "all in" on the dancing in class much to the delight of his classmates ;) He's heading to Costa Rica this Spring and has big plans for the salsa lesson that they'll be taking while there.

- PHOTOGRAPHY -

Mason has fallen in love with photography. He started using my camera for his graphic design class and was quickly researching lenses among other things.  He's been saving for upgraded equipment and has been taking photos as a ton of school sporting events as well as heading out on the weekends to take photos of cars.

- FIRST HOCO -

Homecoming is this week and Mason asked his friend Carrington to go with him. Luke has never been particular about the mum process.... he defaults to whatever is suggested but Mason had MANY THOUGHTS and opinions on all the things ;) The mum turned out BEAUTIFULLY and he's pumped to give it to her which is so sweet!

- MOM/TEACHER -

G is in one of my Math classes this year and has settled in really well.  Luke had zero issue with my being his teacher, Mason was completely weirded out at first, and Griffin was NERVOUS (more about what her friends would say than about me actually being her teacher).  I am LOVING getting to know her as a student and so far her feedback has been that I'm funnier than she thought which I'm counting as a win!

- WORSHIP -

Griffin has always loved to sing and decided to audition for the youth worship team this Fall.  She made it and has been loving the opportunity to lead worship during youth on Sundays.

- IN BETWEEN -

Y'all know I have always loved shopping for Griffin but lately it has been HARD because she's really "in between" youth and women's sizing and finding cute and age appropriate things has been a challenge! She loves Zara but it's been slim pickings and everything Abercrombie is "more of the same".  Altard State is a little bit too big.... pretty much WE NEED HELP! If you have any suggestions PLEASE let us know!  She also loves Aerie but is pretty well stocked in athleisure... and is wanting more dresses and cute shirts.  If you have suggestions leave them in the comments!

- ON THE PROWL -

The weather has FINALLY been cooling off which means Jelly Bean has been on the prowl. She pretty much decides when she wants to go outside and has been wanting to be outside A TON in the nicer weather.

- HOT HOT HOT -

Listen. I like to whine about Texas weather but MY GOSH is summer ever going to be over? It is still like 90 degrees daily and I am UNWELL!  UNWELL!!!

- GILMORE GIRLS -

I've mentioned before that Dave started watching Gilmore Girls with me back in the summer and we've been working our way through the seasons.  I told him that he was going to be SO ANNOYED with Rory after she got to Chilton and I was right.  She better get her act together soon because Dave McAnally is not pleased. haahaha

HAPPY Tuesday, friends!!!

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday, friends! Erika and I are so excited that lots of y'all are linking up with us every week.  Make sure that you're grabbing our graphic, linking back to us and sharing your own Friday Favorites post ;)

Well. It's been a quite week around here which is JUST what I needed.  While a theme day is my FAVORITE I was pretty excited to not have to wash glitter off my face this week ;)

Weekend Highlights...

Whew! I'm back from a CRAZY week that ended in report cards being due on Sunday night ;) A perfect storm some might say! ha!

Better late than never, here are some weekend highlights! First up - we hosted a diaper drive last week and gave House points for every diaper brought in and YOU GUYS my middle schoolers brought in just under FOURTEEN THOUSAND diapers for Hope Women's Center. My whole post could just be this picture...

Halloween Books

Our day of picture books have come and gone but I'd be remiss to not share the books that my kids have loved over the years - because I feel like seasonal picture books (and crafts!) are the best ways to make things feel

Check these out and add a few new ones to your collection or to your library wishlist!

Halloween in the Orchard is in the same series as the gorgeous "Thanksgiving in the Woods" book and it's just everything.

See you tomorrow!

If you've been following along with me on social media you know that last week was a big spirit week on our Middle School campus that included theme days, games, activities, etc. and ended in a big silent disco party on Saturday night.  Add to that that report cards were due for me on Sunday night and the blog had to take a backseat to other priorities this weekend.  I'll be back here tomorrow with a quick recap of the fun so I'll see you then!

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday, friends! Erika and I are so excited that lots of y'all are linking up with us every week.  Make sure that you're grabbing our graphic, linking back to us and sharing your own Friday Favorites post ;)

Short and sweet this week because your girl is booked and busy.  This week was our middle school spirit week and I've been running around like crazy doing #allthethings

Monday was House color day so I had to wear every house color to be as impartial as possible ;)

Apple Cider Cake

I made this apple cider cake a couple of weekends ago and it lasted about 2 days in my house ;) I've made it twice since then and this is the best picture I have because it goes that fast.  It's the PERFECT early Fall dessert!

SaturDAY In The Life

This past Saturday I decided (on a whim) to take pictures and do a DITL post since it's been a hot minute since I've done one!

Griffin had an 8 am dance rehearsal so I was up around 7:30 to help her pull her hair into a bun before Dave took her to the studio.  While they were gone I gathered up some laundry....

Amazon Lately

We're deep in the throes of school spirit weeks and Homecoming and all the fun things so my list is extra fun today!

Griffin has been working on her core and balance for cheer and when I saw this stunt trainer I knew that she'd love it.  She can practice some of the skills she's working on at home, while watching TV, etc.  She loves it and LOVES the sparkles! If you have a cheerleader this would make a perfect Christmas gift!

G and I both LOVE the Gimme beauty hair ties and I just reordered a set because we're down to our last couple ;)

Luke and Mason are both in Student Government and needed Buddy the Elf costumes for something next week.  These onesies were the only ones I cold find in both of their sizes that didn't have the shoes priced separately (which, according to them both, are a MUST).  I know one day I'll miss things like this! hahahaha

Griffin got a Hally hair gem applicator and gems for camp in the summer and needed a refill of the gems for our spirit week...

.... and I ordered another set of clip in extensions and love them just as much as the red, white and blue ones I used earlier in the year. They're such an inexpensive and fun way to participate in a theme day and I love that I can reuse them!

Y'all know that we do special ornaments to commemorate things that have happened in our family over the year and this birkensock ornament DEFINITELY sums up this past year with all three of our kids ;)

This is such a random recommendation - but these tissues are an absolute essential for me and are something that I am going to recommend any chance I get. hahaha They smell SO STRONG so if that Vicks smell helps you out but you don't want globs of vapo-rub on your face these are for you!  Just breathing them in helps clear some of my congestion and I can't live without them in the Fall/Winter.

Another "spirit week" purchase - these gold glitter speckles landed in my cart for cheer and spirit days.

HAPPY Tuesday, friends!!!
